Oluwagbemisola, or Gbemi for short, is a Ph.D. student in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL). Currently, Gbemi works as a Graduate Research Assistant at Dr. Guo’s lab. Her research focuses on the development of new laser-based additive manufacturing techniques that can create complex and customized parts from various materials. She is particularly interested in applying these techniques to biomedical and aerospace applications.
Gbemi is an active member of several professional societies, including the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), the Nigerian Institute of Mechanical Engineers (NIMechE), the Young Engineers’ Forum of Nigeria (YEFoN), and the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE). Her academic and professional excellence and leadership have earned her multiple awards and recognitions from these societies.
She has a passion for engineering education and industry-academia collaboration in her home country, Nigeria. Gbemi graduated with First Class Honors from Obafemi Awolowo University in Nigeria, where she studied Mechanical Engineering.
In 2019, she co-founded Alo-Timeys Ltd, an organization that provides training and mentorship to engineering undergraduates in Nigeria on engineering design for manufacture and industrial automation. Through this initiative, she has trained over 300 students.
